The Monobloc is used worldwide and is probably the furniture produced in the largest number.

Karada was created as part of a university project on the subject of ‘Grotesk’, which involved modifying the monobloc and the grotesque typeface Helvetica Neue. Karada comes from Japanese and means something like body, with the prefix ‘Hishi’ the meaning of the word changes and becomes rope dress. Monobloc is a stackable plastic seating furniture. Features of the Monobloc, are the light weight and low price. The Monobloc is used worldwide.

Through the changes, the Monobloc can evolve into Karada, freeing itself from mass anonymity and becoming a truly unique piece.

With one injection mold, up to 1500 chairs can be produced in 24 hours. The costs for the production are about as much as a single chair weighs: 2.50 Euros for 2.5 kg of plastic granulate. Characteristics of the Monobloc, which is produced as a chair, armchair and stool, are its low weight, stackability and low price.

The font Helvetica Neue was modified to reflect the aesthetics of the chair. The Hiragana characters are intended to clarify the name origin of Karada.

I removed three struts from the seat and two from the backrest and drilled a hole on the left outside of the seat through which the first rope was led. All other ropes are just an extension of the previous one. I used over 60 meters of ropesto cover the whole chair. The monkey fist knot is Karada’s distinguishing feature. The Knot knot serves as a recognition feature for further objects in the future, so that they can be clearly assigned to Karada. For this reason it can also be found in the logo of karada.
